There is a new book available by Anne, a lay apostle! In her new book, Whispers from the Cross, Anne directs our attention to the value of contemplating the Crucified Christ.
“Every lover of Jesus Christ will eventually find his way to the foot of the cross, where he will gaze at the Crucified One and engage in contemplation of those wounds which delivered salvation to humanity. Through contemplation of these wounds, we find our own place in the salvation story.”

Anne identifies some of the temptations we experience during our service to Christ. She explores the importance of the vertical relationship with Christ that is central to the success of our service in our individual vocations in the Church. Anne encourages us to accept the crosses we experience in our earthly journeys and also to accept the crosses God wills for those around us.

“Whispers from the cross will direct us and correct us. These divine emanations from our Crucified King will console us and give us courage…In circumstances of suffering and pain we will feel strength because we arrive daily at the foot of the Cross to receive, and then offer, what is Jesus, instead of what is our feeble and changeable humanity.”

Stations of the Cross

     1st Station- Jesus is condemned

The condemnation of Christ was anticipated, and was part, perhaps the greatest part, of God’s plan for Jesus and for us. Tabor and Calvary. Transfiguration and Crucifixion. Both part of the tapestry of the life of the blameless one. Jesus was unjustly judged and condemned. When we share that experience, we must accept it quietly, like Christ.

2nd Station- Jesus accepts His cross

Accepting the cross is not a momentary action without consequences. It is a doorway through which we walk, entering an ongoing experience of Calvary as one who follows Christ.

3rd Station- Jesus falls the first time

Life throws us to the ground, whether through our own failures or the failures of others. This should not discourage us, even though discouragement accompanies the experience. Sometimes, even in the same day, following Christ requires a series of decisions to rise and continue on.

4th Station- Jesus meets His mother

Often our pain is increased by the reaction of others to our suffering. This painful prism of misunderstanding is another facet of the cross and should be viewed as such. Our Blessed Mother understands our pain perfectly, and just as she never left her son, she will never leave us.

    5th Station- Simon helps Jesus

We resemble Christ when we move to assist another who struggles to manage a cross and Christ Himself is pleased when we humble ourselves and accept the help of others.

6th Station- Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

We are prompted through charity and mercy to help others. Others are blessed and consoled. And we take away with us the experience of God’s goodness flowing through us, always conforming us more completely to Jesus as He makes His way into the world.

7th Station- Jesus falls the second time

Oh sad disappointment! More pain. Still, the journey remains incomplete. Must we continue? We rise and return to the cross, to the plan unfulfilled.

8th Station- Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem

Pity the women who share the dreadful concern of Mary for the children of God. Each person is someone’s child and holds the hopes and prayers of a mother that the world will be gentle and kind. Oh Jesus, give us your mercy for others.

9th Station- Jesus falls the third time

The commitment is to the death. The Collapsed knows only that life remains and, as such, must be offered until it is exhausted. Up. Onward. God will sustain. Let the Spirit drive us forward.

10th Station- Jesus is stripped of his garments

How sublime is the offering of standing naked before those who hate us and yet, in some way, less cruel than standing stripped before those who love us. Oh Jesus, give us the trust to endure all humiliation with confidence in the ultimate triumph of God’s love.

11th Station- Jesus is nailed to the Cross

Agony and relief. Total commitment leaves less room for question. We ask not “if” anymore. We ask simply, “how”, moment by moment in life’s anguish.

12th Station- Jesus dies on the Cross

Perseverance is the jewel of all jewels. Do not doubt the triumph. Do not back away from the course.

13th Station- Jesus is laid in the arms of His Mother

Quiet at last. A grief complete, but pregnant with joy. Humanity endures total stillness, even while time awaits the birth of all hope, the triumph of triumphs.

14th Station- Jesus is laid in the tomb

The body is reposed and the life is concluded, returned to timelessness once again.

Dearest lay apostles, please remember the intentions of the Lord with regard to the Church in China at this time. We are sending this letter out to all, confident that you will send it along to anyone you feel will benefit from reading it, most specifically anyone you know in China.

Love and Christmas prayers from Anne, a lay apostle

December 24th, 2010

My dear brothers and sisters in the Catholic Church in China,

How blessed you are to be chosen by Christ to preach His Gospel of salvation. Truly, the all-powerful God favors you with the commission He has handed to you. Dear brothers and sisters, remember that you do not own the Gospel message that is being transmitted through you. You are simply vehicles for its delivery to God’s children. As such, you must be reverent about how you protect and defend this message, separating it out from worldly messages.

It is clear that God is sending enormous conversion graces into the Catholic Church in China. The good work being done by the whole Church in China is a sight to behold. Many have been blessed to personally witness this growth and truly the Holy Spirit is very serious about building His Kingdom there.

The Holy Spirit, as the architect of the Catholic Church in China, will always construct a pure edifice. He is doing this through men and women, priests and religious, bishops and Cardinals. His desire is to extend the one true Church. If the people chosen to do this job, with all of the graces they have at their disposal, do not pay heed to the Holy Father and those whom He has commissioned to represent him, then we will have yet another faux church, a sham, an imposter of the true Church. The Chinese people do not need misrepresentation. As God’s children, they are entitled to truthful representation, even if that comes at a cost. Indeed, it would be unusual if the burgeoning of the Church in any specific region did not carry a cost.

Be alert. God’s enemy, Satan, does not want consolation and truth for God’s children in China. God’s enemy is the destroyer of truth and God’s enemy will always target unity. Please, dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, act with seriousness and prudence. Protect what has been transmitted to you. Act with steadfast decision. The Spirit is with you and will protect you by giving you clear instruction, but this instruction will only be understood in abject humility, in fearless study of one’s own temptations. Remember that as children of God, we are called first to be holy. When a leader is distracted from his own holiness work, he is liable to mislead.

Better that God has a humble and small Church that is faithful, than a blazing edifice that holds nothing. Ask yourself, ‘What are we building? What is God asking us to construct for Him?’ To abandon the rightful leadership of the Church is to insure that the Church in China will go astray. There can be no other outcome.

What does it mean to be a patriotic Chinese person? Well, I believe that it means that one possesses a desire for that which is good for all Chinese people. Therefore, as Catholic leaders, it would seem completely consistent with one’s patriotic sentiments to possess a zealous desire for a Catholic Church that is linked securely to Jesus Christ, the Church’s head and heart, through His Vicar on earth.

We are called to represent Jesus to the people in our spiritual care. The government does its own work to represent itself and the government will always seek to further its own goals. So be it. May God protect our brothers and sisters in government, bless them and guide them. But we, working in unity with the government whenever possible, must accept our separation from all worldly institutions. It has always been this way and the apostles in China are no different from the first apostles. The call to preach the Gospel is the same now as it was then.

Be assured, men and women of God in China, the entire Catholic Church is on your side and is praying for an outcome that includes peace and unity. We rejoice with you in the wonderful achievements of the Chinese people in recent years. While no single man can completely understand the struggles of another, we pray constantly for your courage and clarity. God’s Kingdom is coming. This is certain. And God desires that His Kingdom come in China, through your commitment to His one holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church.

The lay apostles of Jesus Christ the Returning King are praying steadily for all of our brothers and sisters in the Catholic Church in China at this time.

With the greatest admiration from your sister in Christ,

Anne, a lay apostle
As a married couple, they work to spread the messages of this apostolate.
To that end, the Lord has helped us to identify three other couples who are considering working with us. However, we know we need more help in order to reach even more souls.
Is it possible that the Lord is prompting you to serve the apostolate in this way? If so, we welcome you to join our small band of potential evangelizers, who will meet in Cavan, Ireland on Friday, June 17th.
Come and learn more about how we go out “two by two” and preach the good news. A program has been prepared for us; we simply have to present it to parishes, organizations or small gatherings in homes.
If you are interested in learning more about this type of service to the apostolate, please contact Crystal Sullivan at crystal.dfot@gmail.com
