On the 31st of March 1994 I retired from a very successful career in business intending to enjoy my two favorite hobbies, music and golf. Unfortunately, this did not last long as in September I was diagnosed with cancer of the prostate gland. I had to have major surgery and I spent five weeks in hospital. There were side affects after this operation which affected me badly. My whole world crashed around me and I went into a terrible depression. I could not accept this life and I turned to alcohol for relief. I soon became an alcoholic and addicted to over the counter drugs including cough mixture which contained codeine.
Over the next four years I was in three Rehab Centers attended three and four AA meetings a week without success. Then one night in August 2001 a gentleman came to our town to give his testimony on his healing in Medjugorje from similar addictions, including gambling. Jesus must have touched me that night for the desire for alcohol lifted completely and I have been in recovery ever since. The depression remained for another four years but I prayed daily to Jesus and Mary especially at the Consecration during Mass. Every morning I said several Chaplets for the Holy Souls, asking them for help.
One day in October 2005, a friend gave me Volume One of Direction for our Times. As I read these messages I began to realize how different they were. I had never read messages like these. I felt Jesus was speaking to me personally. I felt the deep love He had for each one of us. I had the compelling urge to tell other people about them and I had no doubt in my mind that they were true. The depression began lifting and by the end of the year it was gone completely.
It was some months later while reading “Climbing the Mountain” that I read the message given by Jesus to “Anne” on the fifth of April 2004 in which He said “Those who read these words will know if they have been called to participate in this heavenly mission I want these messages spread throughout the world.”
This was confirmation for me that I had made the right decision. As “Anne’s spiritual director said, Jesus had spent the last 10 years preparing me for this Mission. It has changed my life completely and I pray that as you read these messages, it will change yours.
